City of Denver Swansea Natatorium

Summary Statement

The community of Swansea in north Denver is constructing a new indoor swimming pool and water park recreation center. Visitors will be able to enjoy swimming, floating along a lazy river, rocketing down a water slide, scuba lessons, and general aquatic activities. The pool was poured in early 2025 in Denver, CO. FCI Constructers placed the mix provided by Smyrna Ready Mix.

EdenCrete® Purpose

EdenCrete® was specified by design engineers to provide strength, crack reduction, and low permeability for water tightness in a concrete water containment vessel. Originally, the project specified an integral crystalline growth water proofing product, but this was replaced with EdenCrete® for the multiple performance benefits the carbon nanotubes offer. The project required a concrete product that was easy to place and work, with superior rheology for excellent finishability. EdenCrete® will provide a long-lasting deck surface that should withstand abrasion forces and potential chemical attack from the pool water. In addition, the floor and walls of the pool required water tightness as measured under ACI 350.1. The pool passed the water tightness test with no measurable water loss over four and a half days. ACI 350.1 allows for up to 1/8” water loss over three days.

Project Details and Conclusions

The use of EdenCrete® in the pool floor, walls, deck, and water slide pad was a huge success. The carbon nanotubes provided everything that the contractor and the city of Denver were looking for including, most importantly, water tightness and alleviated any aesthetic concerns by using other waterproofing products.
